IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5 Announcement
IBM announced the electronic software delivery for IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5 for December 22, 2009 (christmas surprise?) in the announcement letter “IBM Lotus Sametime Entry and Standard 8.5 make unified communications simple and effective“.
Beside major changes in the underlying technology (Websphere, Websphere, not Domino, Websphere, DB2 and erm, yes, Websphere) Sametime 8.5 will contain many significant changes like
- new easy, fast and user friendly online meeting experience
- zero-download and browser-based chat and meeting client (no java stuff and java version related problems anymore)
- standardized audio and video infrastructure to be more compatible with third party conferencing tools
- new video and audio codec for better performance out-of-the-box
- new Web 2.0 API to make life easier for developer
- new browser-based iPhone webclient (imho senseless – try to recevice a call during a chat session :-) ), blackberry storm support, enhanced windows mobile device support
- new social views to make it easier to find your “friends”
- new system console for centralized infrastructure configuration, deployment, management and policy management
- and I am sure, there are many more…
